In September 1775, South Carolina patriots were preparing to defend their colony against British troops. Colonel William Moultrie was commissioned to create this flag of deep blue with a white crescent in the top-left corner. It was famously flown during the June 28, 1776, victory at Fort Sullivan, becoming the first distinct American flag flown in the South.
This flag is painted on 18ct canvas.
